  DANUBE CRUISE - DEPARTURE JUNE 19 - 30, 2010

CRUISING THE CZECH REPUBLIC, GERMANY, AUSTRIA, SLOVAKIA & HUNGARY

The tour begins with three days of sightseeing in Prague, the 1,000-year-old capital of the Czech Republic. We’ll visit some of the city’s treasures – the Old Town’s Astronomical Clock, Hradcany Castle - the largest castle in the world, Charles Bridge, St. Vitus Cathedral. Burt will tell you about his favorite places to eat, drink and shop.

Next day, we cross through Germany’s Bohemian Forest and head to Nuremberg to board our ship.
The following morning we have a guided tour of the city and visit the Hauptmarkt where Burt will
guide you to his favorite gingerbread shop.

Regensburg is one of Germany’s best preserved medieval cities. We also dock in Passau, walk its
cobblestone streets and stop into St. Stephen’s Cathedral which houses the largest church organ in
Europe with over 17,000 pipes. We have the option for a full-day excursion to Salzburg or to the
virtually untouched medieval town of Ceský Krumlov in Southern Bohemia.

Then to Linz, the Austrian birthplace of the Linzer Torte. The next morning, we sail through the
beautiful Wachau region and taste the local wines. Then on to Melk to visit a Benedictine Abbey
that is one of the most magnificent structures in Europe. That evening we arrive in Vienna.

Next day, we’ll have a guided tour of the city and have the option to join Burt at one of his favorite
restaurants. We’ll also stop for Sachertorte (chocolate cake filled with layers of apricot jam)
and Viennese coffee. That evening there’s the option of a Royal Waltz Concert in one of the
city’s great concert halls. We end our trip with a day of sightseeing in Eastern Europe’s liveliest and
most cosmopolitan cities - Budapest.

  FRANCE SEINE RIVER CRUISE - DEPARTURE JULY 19 - 27, 2010

CRUISING PARIS TO NORMANDY - GUEST HOSTESS: SARABETH LEVINE PASTRY CHEF

We board our ship, docked on the River Seine and begin our tour with two days of sightseeing in Paris.
We’ll take an orientation coach tour of some of the city’s most-famous sights: Notre Dame Cathedral,
Arc de Triomphe, Opéra, Champs Elyées, and the Eiffel Tower.

We depart Paris and sail on to the medieval town of Conflans. You’ll have a choice of a guided excursion to Auvers-Sur-Oise, the town where Vincent Van Gogh lived and died, or a guided visit to Saint-Germain-En-Laye, which boasts a 14thcentury château with views over the Seine Valley, and a town center with its roots in the 11th century.

Next morning, on to Vernon, where you will choose between a guided visit of Claude Monet’s house and gardens at Giverny or a visit to Bizy Castle with its magnificent courtyard.

We continue on to Rouen, the capital of Upper Normandy, perhaps best-known as the home of Joan of Arc who lived here in the 1400’s. We’ll enjoy a guided walk through the medieval quarter and visit the city’s Gothic cathedral, which was the subject of paintings by Claude Monet.

The next day, you will have a choice of a visit to the historic Normandy landing beaches - Omaha Beach, the Pointe du Hoc monument, and the American Cemetery or a “Taste of Normandy” tour with in-depth tastings of the local Specialities: Calvados apple cider and Camembert cheese.

After Rouen we sail to Les Andeyls, home to the imposing Château Gaillard built by England’s King Richard the Lionheart in 1196. Our trip ends back in Paris.

  RHINE CRUISE - DEPARTURE JULY 31 - AUG 8, 2010

CRUISING SWITZERLAND, FRANCE, GERMANY AND HOLLAND

We board our boat in Basel, Switzerland and sail to Strasbourg, the capital of the Alsace region. Note- worthy are the Gothic Cathedral, the La Petite France District, the Place Kleber, excellent food, wine and an unusual blend of French and Germanic culture.

We’ll also dock in Heidelberg and visit its 700-year-old castle. We have the option to lunch in Burt’s favorite student pub and have a private organ concert in the Church of the Holy Ghost which dates to 1398. 

Next stop - Mainz, Germany’s largest and most important wine market. We’ll also visit Rüdesheim, a perfect example of a Rhine Valley wine town.  We’ll sail through the dramatic Rhine Gorge, which is one of the most beautiful sections of the river. We’ll pass the legendary rock of the Lorelei.

Then, on to the 2,000-year-old city of Coblenz, a major cultural center. Next day - Cologne where we’ll visit the cathedral, discover why light perfumes are called “Eau de Cologne,” and party in Burt’s favorite beer garden.

  RHONE & SAONE RIVER CRUISE - DEPARTURE AUG 15 - 26, 2010

CRUISING PROVENCE AND BURGUNDY FROM NICE TO PARIS

Our tour begins in the city of Nice on the French Riviera. We will take a guided tour of the Old Town and a motorcoach trip along the Côte d’Azur from Nice to Arles where we board our boat.

Arles is the capital of Provence and was once a major Roman settlement. We’ll tour the Church of St. Trophime and visit the ancient Roman Amphitheater.  Many paintings by Vincent Van Gogh was inspired by Arles.

Next, the fortified and picturesque Provence city of Avignon. During the 14th century it was the residence of the Pope. The wine of the region, Châteauneuf du Pape, is the basis for an optional tasting.

Then, Viviers, its Old Town is a blend of Roman, Christian and medieval influences. The following day we visit the twin cities of Tournon and Tain L’Hermitage situated in the vineyard country along the Rhône River.

Next, we cruise to the ancient city of Lyon, the nation’s gastronomic capital. Burt will give us his guidance to his favorite restaurants.

We dock in Mâcon and take a walking tour of the Old Town including St. Vincent Cathedral founded during the 6th century. Then to Tournus and St. Philibert Church, one of the largest Romanesque monuments in France.

After breakfast, we drive north to Burgundy and the city of Beaune where we visit the Hôtel-Dieu.  After lunch we drive past the forest of Fontainebleau.  In Paris we’ll tour the city’s highlights on an motor coach tour and Burt gives us his guidance to his favorite places to eat and drink.

We start in Amsterdam where we’ll cruise the canals, visit the Rijksmuseum filled with the works of Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Frans Hals, and walk down the street to a museum dedicated to the works of Vincent Van Gogh. Burt’s also arranged for a private tasting of Holland’s cheeses and distilled spirits.

Then Cologne where we’ll visit the cathedral, discover why light perfumes are called “Eau de Cologne,”  and party in Burt’s favorite beer garden.
